Method
Preparation Directions
- 1
Prepare the Corn Husks
Soak the corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes until pliable.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix the masa harina, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the vegetable broth and oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- 3
Assemble the Tamales
Take a soaked corn husk and spread about 2 tablespoons of the masa dough on the wide end of the husk. Add a spoonful of shredded meat and a little red chile sauce on top of the masa. Roll the husk tightly, folding the bottom end up to secure.
- 4
Steam the Tamales
Place the tamales upright in a steamer basket. Cover and steam for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the masa pulls away from the husk easily.
- 5
Serve
Once cooked, let the tamales cool slightly before serving with extra red chile sauce on the side.
