Churros

Method

Churros

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add the Flour

Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Mix until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Eggs

Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes. Then, add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth.

  4. 4

    Prepare for Frying

In a separate bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon with 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Heat 4 cups of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Pipe the Churros

Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Carefully pipe 6-inch long strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors.

  6. 6

    Fry the Churros

Fry the churros until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Coat with Cinnamon Sugar

While still warm, roll the churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.

Chocolate Sauce

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer, but do not boil.

  2. 9

    Melt the Chocolate

Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

  3. 10

    Serve

Serve the warm chocolate sauce alongside the churros for dipping.
