Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Add Boiling Water
Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
Bake Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool Cakes
Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Molten Center Preparation
Prepare for Baking
Pour the molten center mixture into greased ramekins or a muffin tin, filling them about halfway.
Assembly
Layer Cakes
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Pour the molten center mixture on top.
Top with Second Layer
Place the second layer of cake on top of the molten center.
Serve
Slice and serve while warm to enjoy the molten center!
