Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and cocoa powder until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, beating until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Mix in the vanilla extract.

  2. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the chocolate cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
