Preparing the Taco Shells
1. Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
2. Fry the Tortillas
Once the oil is hot, carefully add one corn tortilla at a time. Fry for about 30 seconds on each side until golden and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Making the Protein Filling
3. Cook the Meat
In a separate skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
4. Add Seasoning
Once the meat is browned, stir in taco seasoning and water. Reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture is thickened.
Assembling the Tacos
5. Fill the Shells
Take a fried taco shell and fill it with a generous scoop of the meat mixture.
6. Add Toppings
Top the meat with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, and fresh cilantro as desired.
