Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Cranberries
Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water to remove any dirt or impurities. Discard any cranberries that are damaged or rotten.
- 2
Juicing the Oranges and Lemon
Cut the fresh oranges and lemon in half. Use a citrus juicer to extract the juice from both the oranges and the lemon. Make sure to collect the juice in a bowl.
Cooking
- 3
Boil the Cranberries
In a large pot, combine the rinsed cranberries and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and released their juices.
- 4
Add Sweetener
After the cranberries have burst, stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar. Allow it to dissolve completely while still on low heat. Continue to simmer for another 5 minutes.
Straining and Serving
- 5
Strain the Juice
Once simmering is complete, remove the pot from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain the mixture into another pot or bowl, separating the liquid from the solid cranberry pulp.
- 6
Combine with Citrus Juice
Add the fresh juice from the oranges and lemon into the strained cranberry juice. Stir well to combine.
- 7
Serve
Pour the cranberry juice into glasses over ice if desired. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if using. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
