Method
For the Buttermilk Fried Chicken
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Add the chicken pieces and ensure they are fully submerged in the buttermilk mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- 2
Prepare for Frying
In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Coat the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- 4
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry for about 10-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Remove and place on a wire rack to drain excess oil.

- 6
Make the Dressing

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots. Mix until everything is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
