- 1
Gather all ingredients: 2 slices marbled rye bread, 6 slices thin-sliced pastrami, 2 slices Swiss cheese, 0.25 cup sauerkraut, 2 tablespoons Russian dressing, and 1 tablespoon butter.
- 2
Spread 2 tablespoons Russian dressing on the inside of each bread slice.
- 3
Layer the sandwich on one bread slice: place 2 slices Swiss cheese, then 6 slices pastrami, and 0.25 cup sauerkraut on top.
- 4
Top with the second slice of Swiss cheese (optional) and then place the second bread slice on top with dressing side in.
- 5
Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet and cook 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- 6
Remove from skillet, let rest 1 minute, slice in half, and serve immediately.
