Method

Marinate the Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare Marinade

In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 2

    Marinate Steak

Place the New York strip steaks in a resealable bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, ensuring they are fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 1-2 hours.

Cook the Rice

  1. 3

    Rinse Rice

Rinse 1 cup of jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. 4

    Cook Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine rinsed rice and 1.5 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.

Prepare Vegetables

  1. 5

    Steam Vegetables

In a steamer or pot with a steaming insert, steam the broccoli florets, sliced carrots, and sliced bell pepper for about 5-7 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.

Cook the Steak

  1. 6

    Preheat Grill or Pan

Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 7

    Cook Steak

Remove the steaks from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Grill or sear the steaks for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness is reached. Let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Plate the Dish

  1. 8

    Serve

On a plate, serve a portion of jasmine rice topped with sliced steak, steamed vegetables, and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
