Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Wash the fresh basil leaves thoroughly under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel. If using chicken or beef, cut it into bite-sized pieces. If using tofu, cube it. Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Slice the Thai bird chili peppers, removing seeds if you prefer less heat.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Cook the Protein

In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the protein of choice and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the protein from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 3

    Stir-Fry the Aromatics

In the same skillet, add the chopped garlic and sliced bird chili peppers. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

  3. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Return the cooked protein to the skillet. Add the fresh basil leaves and soy sauce. Stir everything together, allowing the basil to wilt and the flavors to meld, about 2-3 minutes.

  4. 5

    Serve

Serve the spicy basil stir-fry over the cooked rice. For added flavor and crunch, garnish with chopped peanuts and lime wedges on the side.
