Method

Cooking the Brown Rice

  1. 1

    Rinsing the Rice

In a fine mesh strainer, rinse 1 cup of brown rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.

  2. 2

    Boiling Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add 0.5 tsp of salt for flavor.

  3. 3

    Cooking the Rice

Add the rinsed brown rice to the boiling water. Stir briefly to prevent sticking, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the saucepan with a lid and let it simmer for about 45 minutes, or until the rice is tender and all the water is absorbed.

  4. 4

    Fluffing the Rice

Once cooked, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes. After resting, use a fork to fluff the rice gently.

Optional Flavor Enhancements

  1. 5

    Sautéing Optional Ingredients

In a separate skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 0.5 cup of chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.

  2. 6

    Adding Garlic

Add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic to the skillet with onions and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Combining with Rice

Once the rice is fluffed, combine it with the sautéed onions and garlic in the skillet. Stir well to mix. If desired, add 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley for added flavor and garnish.
