Lilikoi Mustard Sauce

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Season the Beef

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up while cooking.

Cook the Bacon

  1. 3

    Fry the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and place on a paper towel to drain excess fat.

Make the Lilikoi Mustard Sauce

  1. 4

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together the lilikoi puree, Dijon mustard, and honey until smooth. Adjust the sweetness to taste.

Cook the Burgers

  1. 5

    Grill the Patties

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

Prepare the Buns and Assemble

  1. 6

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the Punaluu sweet buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Burger

Spread a generous amount of lilikoi mustard sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a burger patty on top, followed by shredded cheese, crispy bacon, sliced tomato, onion, jalapeno, and lettuce. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
