Method

Prepare Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

In a medium pot, combine 2 cups of white rice and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Cook for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.

Prepare Hamburger Patties

  1. 2

    Form Patties

In a bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, and 1 tsp of garlic powder. Mix gently and form into two patties.

  2. 3

    Cook Patties

Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 160°F. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Grill Onions

  1. 4

    Prepare Onions

Slice the medium onion into thin rings. In the same skillet used for the patties, add 1 tbs of olive oil. Cook the onions over medium heat until they are caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.

Fry Eggs

  1. 5

    Cook Eggs

In a separate pan, fry 2 large eggs to your desired doneness (sunny-side up or over easy). Set aside.

Make Brown Gravy

  1. 6

    Prepare Gravy

In the skillet, melt 2 tbs of butter over medium heat. Whisk in 2 tbs of all-purpose flour until smooth. Gradually add 2 cups of beef broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Stir in 1 tbs of soy sauce, 0.5 tsp of salt, and 0.5 tsp of black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.

Assemble Loco Moco

  1. 7

    Combine Everything

In a bowl or plate, add a generous serving of cooked rice. Place one hamburger patty on top, followed by grilled onions, the second hamburger patty, a fried egg, and then drizzle with brown gravy. Serve immediately.
