Method
Tofu Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Wrap the firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for about 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch in size.
- 3
Coat with Cornstarch
Place the cornstarch in a shallow dish. Dredge the tofu cubes in cornstarch until fully coated, shaking off any excess.
- 4
- 5
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden and crispy, turning occasionally. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Miso Sauce Preparation
- 6
Mix the Sauce Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the white miso paste, mirin, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and water. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
- 7
Heat the Sauce
Transfer the sauce to a small saucepan over low heat. Warm gently while stirring for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Do not let it boil.
Assembly
- 8
Serve the Dish
Place the fried tofu cubes on a serving plate and drizzle generously with the warm miso sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions if desired.
