For the Gravy

Method

Cooking the Rice

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse 1 cup of jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and 1.5 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.

Preparing the Ahi Tuna

  1. 2

    Marinate the Ahi Tuna

In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Season the Ahi tuna steaks with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper, then add them to the marinade. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.

  2. 3

    Cook the Ahi Tuna

In a hot skillet over medium-high heat, sear the marinated Ahi tuna steaks for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cooking the Eggs

  1. 4

    Fry the Eggs

In a non-stick skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Crack 2 eggs into the skillet and season with a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper. Cook to your desired doneness (sunny side up, over easy, etc.), usually about 3-4 minutes.

Making the Gravy

  1. 5

    Prepare the Gravy

In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in 1 cup of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Stir until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 6

    Plate the Loco Moco

On a plate, place a generous serving of rice, followed by a seared Ahi tuna steak. Top the steak with the fried egg and pour the gravy over the top. Serve immediately.
