Base

Method

Prepare the Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

In a medium pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 2 cups of rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes until the rice is tender and water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and set aside.

Prepare the Chili Mac

  1. 2

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 1 cup of macaroni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

In the same pot, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add 1 diced onion and 2 minced garlic cloves. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they are soft and fragrant.

  3. 4

    Brown the Meat

Add 1 lb of ground beef (or Portuguese sausage) to the pot. Cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.

  4. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in 2 cups of beef broth, 1 cup of tomato sauce, 1 tbs of chili powder, 1 tsp of cumin, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 6

    Add Pasta

Once the mixture is simmering, stir in the cooked macaroni pasta. Allow it to cook together for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assemble the Bowl

  1. 7

    Serve

In a large dog bowl or plate, layer the cooked rice at the bottom. Top with the chili mac mixture. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving to your furry friend.
