Tofu Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Remove the tofu from its packaging and drain the water. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Place a heavy object (like a skillet or a few books) on top of the wrapped tofu to press out excess moisture. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.
- 2
Cube the Tofu
Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1 inch in size.
- 3
Season the Tofu
In a bowl, combine the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the cubed tofu in the mixture until evenly coated.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of tofu into the oil; if it sizzles, it’s ready.
- 5
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the tofu and transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Dipping Sauce
- 6
Prepare the Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey (or maple syrup), and chili flakes until well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.
