Vegetable Tempura

Tofu Preparation

Method

Vegetable Tempura

  1. 1

    Prepare the Vegetables

Wash and cut the assorted vegetables into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Make the Tempura Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the tempura batter mix with cold water. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Vegetables

Dip the prepared vegetables into the tempura batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove the tempura vegetables from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt to taste and serve immediately.

Tofu Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the Tofu

Drain the firm tofu and press it between paper towels to remove excess moisture. Cut into cubes or slices.

  2. 7

    Marinate the Tofu

In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil. Toss the tofu in this mixture and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.

  3. 8

    Coat the Tofu

Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss to coat evenly.

  4. 9

    Fry the Tofu

In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu until golden and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Vegetable of the Day

  1. 10

    Prepare the Vegetable

Wash and trim the vegetable of choice. Steam or sauté the vegetable until tender but still crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
