Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura

Method

Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura

  1. 1

    Prepare the Batter

In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the ice water and stir until just combined; the batter should be lumpy.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle and float.

  3. 3

    Fry the Shrimp and Vegetables

Dip the shrimp and vegetable slices into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Serve

Serve the tempura hot with soy sauce for dipping and sprinkle with salt to taste.

Beef Teriyaki

  1. 5

    Marinate the Beef

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, sesame oil, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Add the sliced beef, ensuring it's well coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, preferably in the refrigerator.

  2. 6

    Cook the Beef

In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the marinated beef along with the marinade. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is cooked through and the sauce is slightly thickened.

  3. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions, and serve immediately with rice or noodles, alongside the shrimp and vegetable tempura.
