Method

Cooking Rice

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  2. 2

    Fluff the Rice

Remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

BBQ Beef Preparation

  1. 3

    Marinate the Beef

In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and black pepper. Add the beef sirloin and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator for better flavor.

  2. 4

    Cook the Beef

Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade and grill or sear for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

Preparing Chilled Vegetables

  1. 5

    Prepare the Vegetables

Julienne the carrot and cucumber. Blanch the spinach and bean sprouts in boiling water for about 1-2 minutes, then immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.

  2. 6

    Serve the Vegetables

Arrange the julienned carrot, cucumber, blanched spinach, and bean sprouts in separate sections on a serving plate. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble Bibimbop

In bowls, start with a base of cooked jasmine rice. Top with the sliced BBQ beef and arrange the chilled vegetables on the side. Add a dollop of gochujang and place a fried egg on top.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately and mix all the ingredients together before eating. Enjoy your homemade bibimbop!
