Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Brisket

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Trim any excess fat from the brisket and season it with salt, black pepper, paprika, cumin, and brown sugar. Rub the spices evenly over the meat.

  2. 2

    Sear the Brisket

In a large oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the brisket and sear each side for about 4-5 minutes until browned. Remove the brisket and set aside.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Aromatics

In the same pot, add the chopped onion and whole garlic cloves. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Add Liquid and Brisket

Pour in the beef broth and stir well to combine. Return the brisket to the pot, ensuring it is submerged in the broth.

  2. 5

    Cover and Cook

Cover the pot with a lid and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for 3-4 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

  3. 6

    Rest the Brisket

Once cooked, remove the pot from the oven and let the brisket rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

Slice the brisket against the grain into thin slices. Serve on a plate with coleslaw, pickles, and a slice of cornbread on the side.
