Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water. Scrub off any dirt and pat them dry with a towel.

  3. 3

    Prick the Potatoes

Using a fork, prick the potatoes multiple times (about 6-8 times) all over to allow steam to escape during baking.

  4. 4

    Season the Potatoes

Rub each potato with salt and a little bit of oil if desired. This helps to create a crispy skin.

Baking

  1. 5

    Bake the Potatoes

Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Serving

  1. 6

    Prepare the Toppings

While the potatoes are baking, chop the green onions finely. Set aside.

  2. 7

    Finish the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are done baking, remove them from the oven. Cut a slit down the center of each potato and gently squeeze the ends to fluff the insides.

  3. 8

    Add Butter and Toppings

Add a tablespoon of butter to each potato, allowing it to melt. Top with sour cream, chopped green onions, and season with black pepper to taste.

  4. 9

    Serve

Serve the baked potatoes hot, with additional butter, sour cream, and green onions on the side if desired.
