Bread Ingredients

Method

Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Bread

Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Cover the shaped loaf with a damp cloth and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.

  7. 7

    Preheat Oven

While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

  8. 8

    Bake the Bread

Once the dough has risen, bake it in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  9. 9

    Cool the Bread

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.

Herb Butter Preparation

  1. 10

    Prepare the Herb Butter

In a mixing bowl, combine softened unsalted butter, chopped parsley, chopped chives, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve the freshly baked country bread with the herb butter spread on top.
