Method

Fried Green Tomatoes

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices. Sprinkle with salt and let them sit for about 10 minutes to draw out moisture.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In a second bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a third bowl, combine the cornmeal, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Coat the Tomatoes

Dredge each tomato slice in flour, dip it in the buttermilk, then coat it in the cornmeal mixture.

  4. 4

    Fry the Tomatoes

In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat. Fry the coated tomato slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
