Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut each potato into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps the fries become crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

Remove the soaked potato strips from the water and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of dried potato strips to the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pot.

  4. 6

    Drain the Fries

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Seasoning

  1. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss to ensure even coating.
