Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler and then cut them into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

Remove the soaked potato strips from the water and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in batches, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 4-6 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain the Fries

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  5. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss lightly to ensure even coating.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the French fries immediately while hot, alongside your favorite dipping sauces.
