Burger Preparation
- 1
Form the Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form into two equal patties, approximately 3/4 inch thick.
- 2
Cook the Patties
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side, until browned. Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.

Prepare the Toppings
While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into thin slices. Rinse the lettuce leaves and pat them dry.

Assemble the Burger
Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster. Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place a cooked patty with melted cheese on top, followed by the lettuce, tomato slices, and onion slices. Top with the other half of the bun.
