Toppings

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to the package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water for the sauce.

Making Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add 4 minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in 800 grams of crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

  5. 8

    Add Fresh Basil

In the last few minutes of cooking, stir in 10 chopped fresh basil leaves.

Combining and Serving

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly, adding reserved pasta water as needed to achieve desired consistency.

  2. 10

    Serve

Plate the pasta, and top with 100 grams of grated Parmesan cheese and additional fresh basil leaves for garnish.
