Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your batter starts cooking immediately when you place it in the oven.

  2. 2

    Prepare Baking Dish

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Set aside.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 4

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a separate bowl, cream the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the granulated sugar and beat until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

  4. 6

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. 7

    Add Optional Ingredients

If using, fold in chocolate chips and/or nuts gently until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Baking

  1. 8

    Pour Batter into Dish

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly with a spatula.

  2. 9

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. If desired, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
