Method

Preparing the Burger

  1. 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and form each portion into a patty that is slightly larger than the burger buns.

  3. 3

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

  4. 4

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

  2. 6

Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun.

  3. 7

Place the cooked cheeseburger patty on top of the mayo-covered bun.

  4. 8

Top the patty with a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, a generous handful of fried onion strings, and fried jalapeños.

  5. 9

Cap with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
