Cheese and Condiments

Method

Cooking Mushrooms

  1. 1

    Sauté the Mushrooms

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

  2. 2

    Add Mushrooms

Add the cleaned and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Sauté for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 3

    Melt the Cheese

Once the mushrooms are cooked, reduce the heat to low and lay the Swiss cheese slices on top of the mushrooms. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Bread

While the cheese is melting, toast the bread slices if desired. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice.

  3. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

On one slice of bread (mayonnaise side up), layer the sautéed mushrooms with melted cheese, followed by the lettuce, sliced tomato, and red onion. Top with the second slice of bread, mayonnaise side down.
