Cheese Sticks Preparation
- 1
Cut the Mozzarella
Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks about 4 inches long and 1/2 inch thick.
- 2
- 3
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Take each mozzarella stick, coat it in the flour, dip it in the egg, and then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat for all sticks.
- 4
Freeze the Cheese Sticks
Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them keep their shape while frying.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 5
Heat Olive Oil
In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- 6
- 7
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the fresh basil just before serving.
Frying
- 9
Heat Oil for Frying
In a large, deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 10
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully add the frozen cheese sticks to the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- 11
Drain and Serve
Remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
