Method
Preparation of Mushrooms
- 1
Clean the Mushrooms
Rinse the fresh mushroom buttons under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
Making the Batter
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- 3
Add Cold Water
Gradually add cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
Frying the Mushrooms
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Dip and Fry
Dip each mushroom button into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off, then carefully place it into the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
- 6
Drain Excess Oil
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried mushrooms from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Making the Ranch Dipping Sauce
- 7
Combine Ingredients
In a medium bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, dried dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and fresh lemon juice until well combined.
- 8
Chill the Sauce
Cover the ranch dipping sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
