Cooking the Burger Patty

Prepare the Patty
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patty
Shape the mixture into a small patty, about 3 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches thick.

Assembling the Burger

Prepare the Bun
While the patty is cooking, slice the burger bun in half horizontally.

Spread Condiments
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of the bun and yellow mustard on the top half.

Layer the Ingredients
Once the patty is cooked, place it on the bottom half of the bun. Top with onion slices, pickle slices, a leaf of lettuce, and a slice of tomato.

Complete the Burger
Place the top half of the bun on the assembled ingredients to complete the burger.
