Method

Steak Marinade Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a large bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well to create a marinade.

  2. 2

    Add Steak

Add the sirloin steak to the marinade, ensuring it is well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for the best flavor.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 3

    Grill or Sear the Steak

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and discard any excess marinade. Grill or sear the steak for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  2. 4

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.

Assembling the Pitas

  1. 5

    Prepare the Fillings

While the steak is resting, slice the cucumber, tomato, and red onion into thin slices. Chop the fresh parsley.

  2. 6

    Spread Hummus

Take a piece of pita bread and spread a generous layer of hummus on one side.

  3. 7

    Add Steak and Vegetables

Layer the sliced steak on top of the hummus, followed by the sliced cucumber, tomato, red onion, chopped parsley, and feta cheese.

  4. 8

    Finish with Sauce

In a small bowl, mix together the plain yogurt, garlic powder, lemon juice, and salt. Drizzle this sauce over the fillings in the pita.

  5. 9

    Serve

Fold the pita in half and serve immediately. Enjoy your Steak Shawarma Pita!
