Method
Ladyfinger Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a shallow bowl, mix the strong brewed coffee, sugar, and coffee liqueur (if using) until the sugar is dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool.
- 2
Soak the Ladyfingers
Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about 1-2 seconds, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of a serving dish.
Mascarpone Mixture
- 3
Whisk Egg Yolks
In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.
- 4
Add Mascarpone
Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until combined and smooth.
- 5
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- 6
Combine Mixtures
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined, being careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
Layering the Tiramisu
- 7
Layer the Tiramisu
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of soaked ladyfingers. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- 8
Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
Topping
- 9
Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve. Optionally, sprinkle dark chocolate shavings on top.
