Method
Dough Preparation
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour along with olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Toppings and Assembly
Prepare Toppings
While the dough is rising, slice the fresh mozzarella and wash the basil leaves.
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) to ensure it's hot enough for baking the pizza.
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out to your desired thickness and shape.
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread the crushed tomatoes on the dough, season with salt and black pepper, then arrange the mozzarella slices on top. Drizzle with olive oil.
Bake the Pizza
Slide the pizza onto a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Garnish
Remove the pizza from the oven and sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top before slicing.
