Method
Mac & Cheese Preparation
- 1
Cook the Macaroni
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 2
- 3
Add Milk and Cheese
Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens. Stir in the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.
- 4
Combine Macaroni and Cheese Sauce
Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
Breading Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Breading Station
Set up three bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mix of bread crumbs and grated parmesan cheese.
- 6
Shape the Balls
Once the mac and cheese is chilled, use your hands to form small balls (about 1-2 inches in diameter).
- 7
Bread the Balls
Roll each mac and cheese ball in the flour, dip into the beaten eggs, and coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
Frying
- 8
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 9
Fry the Mac & Cheese Balls
Carefully add the breaded mac and cheese balls to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 10
Serve
Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your crispy, creamy mac & cheese balls!
