Method

Prepare the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indent in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Heat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or the skillet to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness, adding a slice of cheese on top during the last minute of cooking if desired.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 5

    Prepare the Veggies

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato and onion. Rinse the lettuce leaves and pat them dry.

  2. 6

    Toast the Buns

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty, sliced tomato, and onions. Add condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to taste. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve

  1. 8

    Enjoy Your Classic Burger

Serve the burgers immediately with your favorite side dish, such as fries or a salad. Enjoy!
