Dough Ingredients

Method

Prepare the Syrup

  1. 1

    Make Sugar Syrup

In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  2. 2

    Add Flavor

Add crushed cardamom pods and rosewater to the syrup. Stir well and remove from heat. Let it cool slightly.

Prepare the Dough

  1. 3

    Mix Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine khoya, all-purpose flour, and baking soda. Mix well until there are no lumps.

  2. 4

    Add Milk

Add milk to the mixture and knead gently to form a soft dough. Be careful not to over-knead.

  3. 5

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes.

Fry the Gulab Jamun

  1. 6

    Shape the Dough

Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth balls, about the size of a marble.

  2. 7

    Heat Ghee

In a deep frying pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Ensure it is hot but not smoking.

  3. 8

    Fry the Balls

Carefully drop the dough balls into the hot ghee. Fry them in small batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown.

  4. 9

    Soak in Syrup

Once fried, remove the balls from the ghee and let them drain for a moment. Then, transfer them to the warm sugar syrup and let them soak for at least 30 minutes.

Serve the Dish

  1. 10

    Garnish

Before serving, garnish the gulab jamun with chopped nuts. Optionally, drizzle a little extra rosewater on top.

  2. 11

    Enjoy

Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delicious homemade gulab jamun!
