Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Crumble when cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Mornay Sauce

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until thickened. Stir in the Gruyère cheese until melted, then season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Hot Brown

Toast the English muffins and place them on a baking sheet. Top each half with pulled chicken, sliced tomato, and a generous amount of Mornay sauce. Sprinkle the crumbled bacon on top.

  4. 4

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the assembled Hot Browns for 10-15 minutes or until bubbly and golden.

  5. 5

    Serve

Remove from the oven and serve hot, garnished with additional cheese or herbs if desired.
