Hash Browns Ingredients

Method

Hash Browns Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or a food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Drain and Dry

After soaking for about 5 minutes, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove as much moisture as possible.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Onion

Finely chop the onion and heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent (about 3-4 minutes).

  4. 4

    Cook the Hash Browns

Add the grated potatoes to the skillet with the sautéed onion. Press them down with a spatula to form an even layer. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown.

  5. 5

    Flip and Finish Cooking

Carefully flip the hash browns using a large plate to assist. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil to the skillet and slide the hash browns back into the skillet. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from skillet and serve hot, garnished with additional salt and pepper to taste.
