Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Caramelize the Onions

Slice the onion thinly. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add the onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Cook the Burger Patties

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into two equal patties. Heat a flat top grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip them, placing a slice of white cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Patty Melt

Spread Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of rye bread. On two slices, layer the cooked burger patties with melted cheese and caramelized onions. Top with the remaining slices of rye bread, dressing side down.

  4. 4

    Grill the Sandwich

In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
