Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel and slice the onions into thin rings. Soak the onion rings in buttermilk for at least 1 hour.
- 2
Make the Coating
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Coat the Onion Rings
Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk and let excess liquid drip off. Dredge the onion rings in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Onion Strings
Carefully add a few coated onion rings at a time into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve warm as a crispy snack or side dish.
