Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

Add Fat
Cut in the shortening or lard until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Mix with Water
Gradually add warm water to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

Rest the Dough
Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Roll and Cut
Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into squares or triangles.

Fry the Sopaipillas
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the sopaipillas in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Drain and Serve
Remove the sopaipillas from the oil and drain them on paper towels. Serve hot with honey drizzled on top.
