Crispy Red Onion Straws
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
- 2
Soak in Buttermilk
Pour the buttermilk over the onion rings and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderness.
- 3
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- 4
Coat the Onions
Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture until fully coated.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Onion Straws
Carefully add the coated onion rings to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
