Baked Beans Directions
- 1
Prepare the Beans
Rinse the dried navy beans under cold water, then soak them in a large bowl with enough water to cover them by a few inches. Let them soak overnight.
- 2
Cook the Beans
The next day, drain the beans and place them in a large pot. Add 3 cups of fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour, or until beans are tender. Drain and set aside.
- 3
Prepare the Bacon and Onion
In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet. Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened.
- 4
Combine Ingredients
In a large baking dish, combine the cooked beans, cooked bacon (crumbled), sautéed onions, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 5
Bake the Beans
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (163°C) for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the sauce is thickened and the beans are heated through.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the baked beans warm as a side dish!
