Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings from each other and set aside.

Batter Mixing

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until smooth.

  3. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is well coated.

  3. 7

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

    Drain and Cool

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
