Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Prime Rib

Rub the prime rib with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, fresh rosemary, and thyme. Ensure the seasoning covers the entire surface of the meat.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). This high temperature will help to create a delicious crust on the prime rib.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Roast the Prime Rib

Place the seasoned prime rib on a roasting pan, bone side down. Roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue cooking for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare.

  2. 4

    Rest the Meat

Once cooked to your liking, remove the prime rib from the oven and cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute within the meat.

Serving

  1. 5

    Slice and Serve

Slice the prime rib into thick slices and serve with horseradish sauce and au jus on the side.
