Base Preparation
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 tsp of baking powder, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Whisk together until well combined.
3. Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk, 2 eggs, and 0.5 cup of melted unsalted butter until smooth.
4. Combine Ingredients
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
5. Bake the Base
Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Frosting Preparation
6. Make the Frosting
In a mixing bowl, beat together 0.5 cup of softened unsalted butter and 3 cups of powdered sugar until smooth.
7. Add Flavor
Add 2 tsp of vanilla extract and 2 tbs of milk. Beat until well combined and fluffy.
Assemble and Decorate
8. Cool the Base
Once the base is baked, let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
9. Frost the Base
Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled base using a spatula.
10. Add Decorations
Sprinkle chocolate shavings and fresh berries on top of the frosting for decoration.
